Fixing the Foundation:
Solutions to Central Iowa’s Housing Needs
On September 19, 2024, UpLift – The Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot hosted a Community Conversation event called Fixing the Foundation: Solutions to Central Iowa’s Housing Needs. The event was co-sponsored by Capital Crossroads and showcased a panel of housing experts from Iowa Legal Aid, Homeward, Polk County Housing Trust Fund, HOME Inc., and IMPACT Community Action Partnership.
During the event, the panelists presented on a broad range of housing-related topics such as evictions in Iowa, the affordability and availability of housing, homeownership, the impacts of rental assistance, while also sharing their insight on potential solutions for addressing the housing needs in our community.
Questions and Answers
Due to time constraints, some questions were unable to be answered live. The UpLift Project Coordination Team complied audience questions and asked the panelists for written responses. The questions and responses can be found below.
Potential Solutions
Attendees were asked to rate each proposed solution as either having a strong, moderate, or low potential to address Iowa’s housing needs. Results from those that completed the survey can be found here.
