Accessing Affordable Healthcare in Iowa
Access to affordable healthcare is fundamental to individual and community health and wellbeing. About one-third of adults say that in the past 12 months they have skipped or postponed getting the health care they needed because of cost. Two major programs, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace, provide affordable health coverage options for individuals and families with low-income, including children, parents, pregnant individuals, seniors, and people with disabilities.
These programs can be complex, and many find it difficult to navigate program systems and receive assistance. “Accessing Affordable Healthcare in Iowa” was created in partnership with Disability Rights Iowa to help readers access resources, learn more about the functions of Medicaid and the ACA Marketplace, eligibility requirements, current data on the impacts of both programs on Iowans and rural communities, as well as helpful application resources.
